THE
PROJECT

As a performing and recording artist, Winter Gardens take the listener on a journey through an eclectic ray of dynamic, disparate sounds. A kaleidoscopic assembly of ethereal shoegaze atmospheres glued together with a pulsing post-punk attitude & a brooding gothic undercurrent with lyrics evoking a sense of cryptic intimacy. Winter Gardens approached us at Mountainwolf as they wanted a collection of music videos for their upcoming singles that would tie together under one overarching aesthetic. Over the course of two years, we worked with Winter Gardens to create videos for four different tracks: Crystallise, Laminar Flow Pt. II, Uncomfortable Unlovable, and our award-winning short film, Moonjockey. The goal was to create visuals that were unmistakably tied to the band's identity while exploring a slightly surreal, otherworldly tone that would set these videos apart.

Uncomfortable Unlovable

HOW WE
DID IT

To bring this vision to life, we drew from a wide range of creative approaches and locations. Each video had its own narrative and aesthetic, but they all shared a sense of dislocation-like stepping into a world that felt familiar yet alien. Laminar Flow Pt. II, features backward singing, creating an eerie effect where the singer's hair seemed to rearrange itself in real-time, while lyrics are perfectly in sync. The result was a dreamy, almost hypnotic sequence. For Uncomfortable Unlovable, we wanted to tell the story of a lone detectorist lost in his own search for meaning. This video leaned heavily on the tension between desire and frustration, captured through moments of solitude and yearning. Finally, Moonjockey became something truly special. This award-winning piece tells the tale of an anxious being navigating through a world of loneliness and miscommunication, trying to connect with others through the ultimate existential quest: a lonely hearts column.

RESULT

This set of music videos resonated with the band's fanbase. The videos received tens of thousands of views across YouTube, Vevo, and social media platforms, and were showcased at a special premiere in a local cinema, drawing fans together to experience the music in a new way. Most excitingly, Moonjockey was nominated for a handful of film festivals and won an award at the Prague International Film Awards. This project stands out as one of our proudest moments at Mountainwolf.
